TRAVELLING TO TARTU

Due to the spread of the coronavirus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against any non-essential international travel. Further information can be found here. Please pay attention to the restrictions on the freedom of movement. A 10-day restriction on the freedom of movement applies on entering Estonia from a country in the European Union, European Economic Area and the Schengen area with an infection rate above 150 persons per 100 000 inhabitants in the past 14 days. The 10-days restrictions on movement and COVID-19 testing are not mandatory for individuals (both when arriving from Europe and other regions), who have suffered from COVID-19 and no more than six months have passed since they have been declared cured; have undergone COVID-19 vaccination and no more than one year has passed since its completion. The easiest way to reach Tartu by air is via Tallinn (Ülemiste) airport, to where there are many direct flights from a number of European cities, including Riga, Vilnius, Helsinki and Stockholm.

For travelling between Tallinn and Tartu, we recommend using intercity bus transport. Buses between Tallinn and Tartu run daily every full hour, and even more often (every 30 minutes) during busy periods. The distance between Tallinn and Tartu is 186 km and the travel time by bus is approximately 2,5 hours. Buses are comfortable and most of them offer WiFi connection, entertainment systems, hot drinks. In Tallinn the buses make a scheduled stop at the airport, and in Tartu the bus station is located in the city center, next to the Dorpat hotel. Please consult the intercity bus timetable and purchase tickets online. During the weekends it is advisable to buy bus tickets in advance.

There is also an intercity train connection between Tallinn and Tartu. Express trains run 10 times per day and the travel time is around 2 hours. WiFi connection is available in all trains. Trains timetable and ticket information is available here.

We are delighted to offer you a choice of reduced accommodation rates for the duration of the Baltic Economic Association 2020 conference. The hotels are located up to 15 minutes walking distance from the venue of the conference (except hotel Sophia that is in the outskirts of Tartu).

Hotel bookings should be made directly through the hotels reservation desks (please use the contact details provided below). Bookings made through online hotel booking systems will not get the special discount for the conference participants. To claim your discount, please use the special rate codes provided below when booking your room. We strongly recommend booking in advance, as discounted rooms may sell out quickly. The discounted rates for the period of 7.-10.06.2020 will be valid for bookings made until the dates specified by the particular hotels.
