Welcome to Tartu

The 3rd annual conference of the Baltic Economic Association is hosted by the University of Tartu (Estonia).

We are pleased to invite paper submissions for the 3rd Baltic Economic Conference that will take place on June 7 – 8, 2021 at the University of Tartu in Estonia.


Keynote speaker: Roberto Rigobon (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT Sloan School of Management)


Award for the best paper presented by a PhD student

There will be an award in the sum of EUR 500 for the best paper presented by a PhD student. The candidates for the award are not limited to the Baltic region (neither in terms of institution nor nationality), but the following rules apply:

  • paper is presented at the conference

  • all authors of the paper are doctoral students or researchers having defended their thesis in 2021.


Congratulations to Ilja Kantorovitch, whose paper "Exuberant and Uninformed: How Financial Markets (Mis-)Allocate Capital During Booms" was awarded the first BEA PhD paper prize with a unanimous decision from the jury!

The jury was composed of three BEA members representing each of the three Baltic States: Linas Tarasonis (Vilnius University), Konstantins Benkovskis (SSER, Bank of Latvia), Gaygysyz Ashyrov (University of Tartu).
